Sunshine, Books and Tea

This pretty much sums up my weekend, sunshine, books and tea (or high tea)!

The last couple of days have been wonderfully sunny so Mr Cornflake and I have been fitting in some much needed walks. I got this shot of this amazing red tree coming back from our friends' house - it looks like it's on fire!

I've also been flicking through our travel books which sit on the bottom shelf of our big bookcase...dreaming of travelling again! Wouldn't it be nice just to give up the day job without a care in the world? :)

Off for a cup of English Breakfast tea to see me through the afternoon - clearly cannot get enough of the stuff! ;-)

frames and things

Hey, I thought I'd show you my frame display that I mentioned the other day. I actually have quite a number (30 off the top of my head - how bad am I?) but I don't want to / can't go too crazy in our little abode.

One of them clearly isn't a frame, it's a hand carved mask from Indonesia of Mr Cornflake's which he loves and so do I.

Above them are just a few pieces from around my home.

Hope you're all having a lovely week dear readers!

At my home

Wishing you all a lovely start to your week! Today I'm playing along with Buttons by Lou Lou with her weekly 'at my home' post so I thought I'd show you a bit of my interior styling at my home...Notice lately how obsessed I've been with walls and decorating them? Well here's one wall I've decorated with framed polka dot fabric hoops.

So simple to do and so affordable and the beauty (as I'm sure you can see) is you can keep reusing them and mixing and matching different fabrics! I'd love to do some floral ones but I don't think that would go down too well with Mr Cornflake and fair enough! I have quite a few touches of my favourite colour, turquoise around the place and overall the mix of aqua blues help give our place a beachy feel while still being modern, young and fresh.
I've combined a bit of thrift too today ahead of Thrifty Tuesday so here is my fabulous (yet again another blue and white) vase which I found at the local charity shop for $10. Well you can get a bit of a feel for the size of our flat as this isn't our dining room, it's our dining cum living room cum hall cum dumping ground! A c'est la vie, the house will come one day I hope!!

Have a lovely day everyone!! xx

Around my home...

I just thought I'd show you some colour in my home, there's lots more, trust me, this is just a teaser! The little enamel pots came from Tree of Life - a great ethical homewares shop in Sydney so you know your dollars are going some way to help those in India that made these beautiful things. The cushions, on our bed, are all thrift at $3 a pop, except for the black and white one which I pick up for $6 from a local dollar shop. I have more of them on our sofa! The starfish/flower over our headboard is our ode (amongst others) to beach living, I bought it from a gift shop in Manly more than a year ago. The angle I took this photo it looks miles above the bed but it's not!
Phew I'm beat, this week has been intense, I'm so ready for the weekend!! Hope to catch up with all of you then, thanks so much for stopping by! :-)

Sunday Sunshine

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend so far?

We have been enjoying the most gorgeous sunshine at the moment with the most vivid mediterranean blue sky. However there is a very strong chill in the air! A beautiful day at the Rozelle markets yesterday with lots of treasure hunting (yet another blue and white find above - a pair in fact, for just a few dollars amongst other things) and coffee!

I'm just about to head down to the beach for a quick walk (really need to stretch my legs!) before meeting some friends at the movies.

Wishing you lots of sunshine and happy days! :-)

Thrifty Tuesday

I can't believe I got this gilt mirror for $8! Yup, it's from my local charity shop.

Okay, I admit, it's not carved wood but moulded plastic, not that you can tell until you touch or hold it. What attracted me to it most is it's shape and it's super light which makes it really easy to hang. For these photos I hung it above my bargain $30 side table which I sourced on Gumtree but I know it won't be able to stay because its 'way too ornate and girly for our living room'!

I haven't decided whether to keep it this slightly brash gold or touch it up with a soft old gold or paint it white.

Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

I've thrown in some extra photos of my sweetpeas and lilies. I can't go through a weekend without buying fresh flowers, they are my little treat after all my great thrifting! :-)

A sneaky peak inside my home

A few things in my home :-)

My 'beachy' looking bookcase, was discarded by an old housemate a couple of years ago. I saw a find, seized the opportunity and painted it a few coats of white to spruce it up and make it more appealing :-).

My lighthouse candle lantern I found while casually purusing the aisles of Kmart one day. The hanging beaded snowflake was a present from London. The wire wall sconce I bought when I was a teen (started collecting young!) which I brought back with me from my recent trip home in the UK.

My funky black bowl was bought in a little shop in Manly for $20. It's so pretty empty I can't put anything in it!

Lastly, my favourite flowers, lilies.
